William Christie joins Hiro Kurosaki in violin sonatas by Handel, Charles Dutoit conducts Yo-Yo Ma in the world premiere of Qigang Chen’s Reflet d’un temps disparu and John Nelson anticipates the summer with a magical Midsummer Night’s Dream. Fabio Biondi’s exhilarating Four Seasons appear on a single disc, while the new Serenity collection offers timeless classics to relax the spirit.
Two new black boxes contain Handel’s great oratorio Saul, directed by Philip Ledger, and music by Monteverdi and Vivaldi with the Taverner Consort, Choir and Players. New budget doubles include Handel's Israel in Egypt, a generous collection of vocal and instrumental works by Purcell, Mozart piano concertos from Mikhail Pletnev and an unmissable programme of music for strings by Britten, Grieg and Nielsen, performed by the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra.
